OT - Filtering Google Group Postings in Agent?

I tried to filter by "Organization:", but Agent won't let me. Is there another way? I don't want to get rid of gmail, just posters from Google Groups (so far).

I don't really want to do it here, but another ng has been completely overrun by trolling imbeciles (yeah, I know that's redundant), and I don't even need to see them. Who knows, something real might show up eventually?

TIA, Joe

Look at the "Message-ID: " header. IIRC it shows google's name in the mess of random characters.

Enjoy, DoN.

Thanks, but aww, hell, Agent won't let me filter on damn near anything. Not Organization, Message-ID, References, Path, Complaints. Basically just Subject & Author. I even tried making the filter terms "open-ended", with no reference to any field (Agent accepted that), but it failed to remove the bad boys.

Most of the "15 year-olds in Mommy's basement dweebs" on the unnamed ng seem to post through google groups, and I don't know how to stop 'em!

Kinda makes you lose faith in humanity.

I'm one of the first 4500 paid users. It started out awesome and for some reason they just don't seem to get we want filtering that is useful.

There is a perfectly reasonable technical explanation to the problem: Filtering can only be done on information that is available in the headers that are received when requesting headers from the server. To be able to filter on message body or other headers, you'd have to download the entire post before you could filter it. That would be painfully slow and storage wasting.

The headers that are available during this overview include Message-ID, which in googlegroups case can be easily identified, all google groups Message_IDs have a string common to them.

That is correct. Forté state "Filtering on Usenet message-ID header field" as a new feature in the upcoming version 5, so it seems they are finally getting there.

I don't care if I wasted bw getting it, I just don't want to see it. Header filtering, post download filtering, doesn't matter a bit to most of us.
