OT: On becoming a data driven economy

As indicated in several prior postings, IMNSHO it is critical to get away from attempting to manage the US/global economy on the basis of ideology, theology, astrology, numerology, etc. but instead use the existing tools and databases to become "data driven."

The following article indicates how even a minor attempt, by a few academics with limited resources, has produced major results. It remains to be seen however if the politicians will act on this data. A significant effort using the NSA pattern matching computers and governmental databases should produce an even better understanding.

An analysis of the relationships between 43,000 transnational corporations has identified a relatively small group of companies, mainly banks, with disproportionate power over the global economy.

connect preferentially to highly connected members. TNCs buy shares in each other for business reasons, not for world domination. If connectedness clusters, so does wealth, says Dan Braha of NECSI: in similar models, money flows towards the most highly connected members. The Zurich study, says Sugihara, "is strong evidence that simple rules governing TNCs give rise spontaneously to highly connected groups". Or as Braha puts it: "The Occupy Wall Street claim that 1 per cent of people have most of the wealth reflects a logical phase of the self-organising economy."

============== While this may be true, the work of Bok and Chin on "self organizing criticality" shows that systems allowed to grow beyond a given limit are increasingly likely to have periodic catastrophic collapses or slumps.

All right, now that we know their secret, how can we take advantage of it?

Given the current very serious, even critical, socio-economic situation of the United States, the Euro Zone [EZ], Japan and the U.K., it should be obvious we can no longer [attempt to] operate economies of this scale, complexity, and interconnection on the basis of ideology, theology, astrology, numerology, I-Chang, Tarot, necromancy, etc. but must we become ?data driven? if continual crises and collapses, with the civil unrest that results, are to be avoided.

The above referenced article shows the deep factual insight even a limited program by a few academics using the restricted resources of a university computer have managed to obtain. It is therefore strongly urged that Congress mandate the U.S. intelligence services to reallocate at least part of their technical resources and personnel to an in-depth analysis of the actual organization, structure, and operation of the U.S. and global economies. It should be noted that both the amount of damage and likelihood of occurrence are far greater for chain reaction economic/financial implosion than for any foreseeable domestic ?terrorist? action.

At the very least, NSA should be immediately tasked with replicating and evaluating the work of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, using their far more powerful pattern matching computers and professional pattern/complexity analysts, possibly assisted by the GAO and IRS, using all governmental data. If verified, Congress should then be obligated and accountable for enacting of legislation to limit the size of the supra/trans-national corporations to some reasonable size (i.e. small enough to fail) and the degree of connectivity to less than that representing a systemic threat.

This can be done through enactment of draconian criminal and civil penalties against individuals for creating or maintaining supra/trans-national corporations of excessive size and/or interconnection, and/or the imposition of progressive punitive taxation on their global gross receipts [?profits? are too easily manipulated or concealed, e.g. ?transfer pricing,?] using unitary taxation of supra/trans-national corporations of excessive size and or interconnection, to eliminate any motivation for creation or maintenance.

You don't. YOU don't. You DON'T.

Hard to accept and swallow, but the truth (so many seek it so few find) is

You Don't - do Nothin...

There is nothing that you as an individual, or in concert with a group of other individuals, CAN do.

That will make any difference at all.

But you can't accept that, can you? So you do on....

Not that it helps any - it won't. It can't. But you can't accept that, so you do anyway. DO! Damnit! Doit?

Hold up, I'll cut to the chase. What can you do about anything you hear in the news = nothing. You can do NOTHING.

Not a thing

Nothing that will change anything.

ANYthing at all...

Acceptance is the first step.... That's the hard part.

After that it gets easier. Not a lot, of course, but yeah, somewhat easier.

Deal with it.

YOU don't count!

As usual, George, you have it by the short and curlies. Yea George!

But it won't matter in the long run, Not even in the short run...

We are too late, too few, and too powerless to make any difference at all...

You need to study the operations of Delta Force in taking down Pablo Escobar of Columbian cocaine cartel fame.

They went into Columbia, set up signals intel gathering, figured out the pyramidal structure of Mr. Escobar's cartel, and proceeded to remove key supporting "stones" (i.e. operatives) in his business pyramid until Escobar was completely isolated. He was finally gunned down after making a cell phone call to his wife who was denied the ability to emigrate to another country while this hunt was happening.

All that is necessary is the enactment of some anti-trust type laws specifically tailored to the situation and vigorous policing of those laws to remove key operatives.....and the pyramids of the TNC's will "self organize" into a different (possibly benevolent) form.

When dealing with the criminal Escobar, Delta used assassination rather then arrest.....but arrest will serve the same deterrent purpose. Dave
