I think you are looking at the "wrong" set of facts. Taxes look a lot different to the large percentage of Americans that are under $100K and rather than look at the actual facts and results, they project their own circumstances on others. That is the set of "facts" most people use in making their judgement. The easiest way to get a 7.5 percent immediate reduction in the taxes you pay on every dime of income is to cross the $106K social security boundary. Doing so leads to an instant reduction of $7,500.00 on the direct tax on the next $100K. That is significant even though it isn't income tax. Money, after all, is money.

The same principal applies to spending, deficits and tax revenues. It's counterintuitive for a guy making less to spend more and he probably shouldn't. That isn't necessarily the case with government and raising marginal tax rates when they are very low creates and incentive for high income individuaks to spend on things that are deductable. You know, like labor or benefits.

I have the answer! The President (probably not this one, too beholden) goes on national TV and "suggests" that citizens buy American made products and announces term limits on ALL public offices. The entire situation would change overnight.

Which do you thing took longer and cost more; the design, prototyping, testing, production planning, fixturing, sales and production....OOOORRRRRR....product liability insurance hoop-jumping, FDA approval and the patent process? In comparison, the Chinese would have that product on US shores in a week at 1/10th the cost....and make money doing it!
