OT: Webcam/powdercam works well!

I mounted this cheap lighted webcam on a reloading press to be able to "see" the powder charge in each shell. The LEDs are light blue and almost make the powder glow. I have a big monitor behind the press that's easy to glance at. Squibs, (too little or no powder) can be dangerous if you don't have the possibility in the back of your mind and fire another round with a plugged barrel. This is set up for 9mm Luger and the powder I like to use doesn't meter well in the light charges I like. The aquarium pump vibrates the powder hopper and vastly improved the consistence of the dump. So, the aquarium pump rubberbanded onto the powder hopper and the powdercam have seemed to cure the problem. I run the press sitting on the right side at an angle and pull the lever from my right to left, down across my chest. Others are standing or sitting straight and it's easier for them to see the charged case. Some have installed LEDs to light the case and make visibility better.

The use of the aquarium pump is interesting. Did you unbalance it somehow?

The low-volume aquarium pumps I'm familiar with all use some of vibrating pump, not a motor.

I have a webcam I used to use for zeroing my mini mill to a work piece. For most things I use the laser finder now. They are cool toys aren't they.

Would you get that and still have enough umph to operate the slide properly? I have shot quite a bit of cheap ammo through my .45 ACP and never had a plugged barrel, although some of the lower power target rounds don't have enough umph to operate the slide on my 1911 properly. Or is the fear that you might ejected and manually seat the next round without thinking about a plugged barrel?

Hmmm... I bought a loupe and small hand microscope for inspecting tiny little end and ball mills. Maybe you just gave me an idea for using my webcam. Thanks.

ah, of course. like some fuel pumps

Isn't that basically how most stock cam driven fuel pumps work? A rod pushing on a diaphragm?

I think the older mechanical pumps and some of the electric used with carbureted engines.

The type I'm thinking of is mostly made by Facet. It is a plastic tube, with a valve inside, surrounded by an electromagnetic coil. The coil is has contacts that are normally closed. charging the coil moves the tube and the fuel it contains, and breaks the contact so it moves back. then contact, back again. Low pressure (carbureted) only.

current FI vehicles generally used radial vane pumps, with the fule flowing axially around the motor armature.

What, you're not going to mention the lovely pink powder press? Or was that what the compliment was for?

Pink is a tranquilizing color..which is why many police departments paint their pysch holding areas pink. Its just another color. Shrug. Now if Tawm was wearing a pink jumpsuit while loading ammo....that would be another story, particularly if his jewelry was of a clashing color.
