Pipe-arific

One good way to use pipe as structural elements is to flatten just the ends and punch or drill holes in them for bolting together. When I was a kid my family had a swingset made like that. Those old 1950s swingsets were plenty strong--when I was a teenager I saw those used to pull engines many times. I don't know if you really have to hot forge them. To find out, take one end of one of your pipes and try to beat it flat with a big (like twenty pound) hammer. If it works, there ya go. No propane needed whatever.

Hey Tim, do you have a Harbor Freight in your area? Maybe one of those 110vt flux core mig welders might be an option for you.

Nah, HD and Lowes in Rockford and Janesville though.

Actually Ive given away a couple buzz boxes in the last few months. If they werent so damned heavy, Id try to scrounge you up one locally so you could fly back with one.

Maybe you can find something locally via ebay? As I said..Ill kick into the kitty, and if you are short..add a bit more. Folks here on the newsgroup have been very good to me, and Ill just try to pass it along.

I suspect one of the lil flux core wirefeed jobbies might be your best bet, given your folks and all.

You might want to go to the local hardware store and buy the screw on fittings used for making hand rails. They're made from die cast with a couple of screws but should get you by.

I've thought about sending him some stuff , but the simi is close to leaving before I can think about it. Plus I don't know how close he is from a highway , anyhow no more trips that I know about and they wouldn't do more than stop for a minute at say a truck stop.

Hmmm, tough crowd. I asked the guy and my neighbor ahhh what is it Tisked and through something across the table cause it was a charity trip. Aluminum scrap was in the plan , you should look harder , your setting right next to a hot spot. I don't know what to say , no wonder I fled home at 15 , but they wanted to kill me for grins and $.
