Often as bad is the guy with police or military experience who has heard and believed every old wives tale about guns, but "learned all about guns in the service".

My favorite was an ex US Army, then reservist, who insisted his M16A1 was made by Mattel. He didn't realize this was just an old joke.

There is a chance that Mattel did make the pistol grips for a very few rifles, but their claim to fame is use of far different plastics.

There were a number of makers of the various parts and pieces that its entirely possible a run of parts was made by people other than Colt, Hydramatic (General Motors) and H&R

Shrug...who knows? I see lots of claims both ways with little evidence one way or another.

" Mattel through a contract with Fiberlite developed FM8130 (glass fiber filled) for use in chopper blades in the then developmental AH-56 program. At the time Colt was still using Fiberlite FM926 (cotton fiber filled). Fiberlite made Colt aware of FM8130 even though their NDS with Mattel meant they were not supposed to talk about. Due to the incredible strength of FM8130 Colt went direct to Mattel and awarded them a contract for handguards after getting approval from RIA for the material change (RTA 508-51 18 March 1965).

Later Col. Yount of the TCC would get field complaints from the 101st that the buttstock on their XM16E1 rifles were not up to the task of checking for soft spots on the armor of their M551?s. Again Colt requested a material change (RTA DCRB-DH-0018-24 20 April 1967), Mattel was given another contract.

Mattel?s FM8130 plant was destroyed during the April 68 riots and all records were lost. Only reason I know about it is that a Hasbro executive I met at the Hilton (he sells chem. light chargers and grid squares to Rock Island) told me about it, he use to work for Mattel."

Yep, I'd like one too but, I would be chasing the numbers. I know I can get the results I want without one but attaching a number to the great loads makes them easier to reproduce with other components. But, different power curves with different powders or primers may yield the same number on the chrono but not the same results. So many variables! I try to limit them, not expand them. Don't forget I'm only working with pistols. Rifles would be a whole new ballgame for me.

Not all, but Mattel was a manufacturer.

I saw several marked Mattel, while in basic. We had a bunch of them from various manufacturers, since they had been shipped back to the US from Vietnam for complete rebuild while they got our brand new rifles. Due to a change in the cycle time for basic, they didn't have time to rebuild them and we got junk that most people couldn't hit a target with.

Oh..yeah..thats right. And indeed..they are a completely different world in many aspects.

About the only pistol loads Id care to chrono are from the Contenders. Shrug.

The only people I know who chrono their pistol loads are USPSA shooters who want to barely make major power factor.

The DOD took Stoner's rifle then changed everything that made it work well. Gee, imagine that!
