O.K.

I've actually got a set of them in MT-1 (or is it MT-0?) anyway, I made a Morse taper holder for a releasing tap holder for the turret on my lathe. I have yet to put it to the fire test.

There are also variants designed to hold cylindrical shank drill bits -- with a flat tang ground into the end of the bit.

Not with my turret for 1" shank tools. :-) The turret replaces the tailstock for production work.

Enjoy, DoN.

The r-8 would be for the bridgeport. The morse straight sided sleeves are the ones for a turret drill. I use the sleeves in the turret of the cnc lathes since most of our bigger drills are all morse taper.

The morse tapers for holding straight shank drills are actully made for the drills with the flat on the shank end. You will sometimes get them when you buy new surplus drills. The regular straight shank drills will work fine in the morse collets but in production it is nice to have that extra tang on the back to keep it from twisting in the collet. Pretty easy though to just grind a tang on the back if you need it.
