Signing off

It's finally happened, I'm going to sign off, probably permanently. Many reasons, the main one being that SBC raised my monthly from $29 to $49. Road runner isn't an option, they're so screwed up that they assigned two of us the same user name, and the only way to straighten it out would have been to go to their website, which of course, I couldn't sign on. They had two shots at it, I'm not going to give them a third. Another, SBC in their "infinite wisdom" has refused for many years to upgrade the lines and equipment in this area, it's basically 1950 stuff still crunching along. The result is that any dial up is going to be unreliable, many times being inaccessable for several days at a time.

Add on increasing pressure here at home, and declining usage of the internet, even $1 per day becomes more than it returns. I have had one email in two weeks, check the same five groups once a day and usually don't open anything to read it. Haven't pulled down a midi file for over a month now, you might say I have zero return for the money.

Cheers, keep the chips hot and the tool cool.

Greybeard/Lennie the Lurker.

(Cutoff is midnight tonight.)

Every year I have had to call SBC to renew my contract when they raise my rate to $49 from $26.95. A little talky-talk and they gave me the $26.95 from the $29.95. You might renegotiate, I'd miss you're posts...and you'd miss mine! I get over 200 e-mails a day, Grow hair, Viagra, loose weight, enlarge my hoo-haa...etc... I just wonder: "HOW DO THEY KNOW????" I could forward them to you if you re-up so you can feel wanted too.

Get a $10 a month Net Zero account. Or a BlueLight Accounf from Kmart.

Work fine for the limitted stuff you appear to be doing.

Hey Lennie!

Bummer! We still have some issues to discuss! If, by chance, nothing comes from things and you really do leave, be well, and let us hear something from you, even if through a friend.

NetZero works fine for me. too.

Also I got the (free) web browser from Mozilla. Now I don't get ANY pop up adds.

Hope this helps.

Lewis.

Before you leave, use google to search for low cost or free internet service. I would quit too at $49/month. Fortunately I live where I can get No Charge at NO CHARGE. And use Yahoo for email.

Also think Public Library. Almost all of them have internet access.

I'm signed up to sysmatrix.net. $10/mo billed every 3 months. Includes unlimited access plus the newsgroups. Seems to work great with LOTS of access numbers. Ken.

Tonight is my last night for a while also.

I have no idea when only where I might be able to - Moving Saturday. Packing starting in 8 hours (I have been packing for a month) The shop is 90+ packed in lock boxes and lately some trunks. Coiled many a cord into a 5 gallon bucket - 120 and 220 extensions then put the lid on with my foot!

Have some small containers that are to heavy to carry far and some trunks more so.

I reduced the weight in one trunk - (Gunner provided much of the weight in that one :-) ) and will allow me to pick up one end at a time.

Steel is heavy. Al isn't light when you get down to it.

All of you take care, I have learned a great deal and will be more so.

I"ll return someday - if I can find an ISP that provides this old method of discussions. I like this just fine.

Another day Martin
