I'm in the process of fitting the new motor I got from Tim Leech to my grinder, and as it is a bit larger than the 3-phase one that came off I have had to add a extra support bar at the back of the motor mounting plate so that I can bolt the new one down. However, in the process of drilling and tapping the casting to fix this bar on I noticed that it has a radius across the mounting surface, picture here
My first thought is that I should just face this off on the mill so everything is level and have a flat mount to fix the motor to, but before I did this I thought I should ask if anyone knows if this radius is intentional? I can't think of any reason it should be there, and perhaps it is just a result of the casting process or the way the pattern was made. The grinder is a Dronsfield Eagle, and the mounting plate is pivoted at one end to adjust the belt tension then clamped.
