Macc Model Eng. Supplies

Does anyone on here have any dealings with Macc Model Eng. Supplies of Macclesfield. Normally their service is first class but a recent purchase hasn't arrived, telephone, e-mails or Fax not being answered. I just wondered if anyone else was having problems. Regards. Ben

I was there at the shop a week and a half ago - friday afternoon - very much buisness as usual.

I didn't know they had a shop - I had assumed they were only mail order.

Normal mail service seems excellent. I have had one item never turn up

- but it was a minor bit of stainless steel and I found some elsewhere while waiting so never worried. I couldn't get them on the phone and only ever one reply to an e-mail, and I wondered if they had gone out of business or on a long holiday.

Maybe Dave can enlighten us, is it a one man show ? Or is it a thriving business with loads of people ? It looks from the website that they are closed for an entire month over Xmas, so I am guessing it is the former - as it seems on to be shut then.

Hi David & Steve, Many thanks for the input. I have e-mailed five times, two faxes and umteen phone calls only to get the answer machine which says leave your number and I will get back to you, which has never happened. Its only for £20 put after receiving a 1st. service over the last nine months or so you think has he gone bust, in hospital or as Steve suggest on a extended holliday. These few items were bought from his web site not Ebay. He hasnt been doing a lot of selling on Ebay over the last few weeks except buying some concert tickets. Regards Ben

Its a biggish shed that serves as a counter with one or two other sheds behind. There was a youngish guy serving and I think someone else in the rear. I was quite impressed, they have good stock levels, reasonable prices and efficient service. It's sad if they are letting people down on the mail order side.

I've found it hard to find good ME suppliers. They tend to be cheap and disorganised (which isn't really cheap if you've driven an hour each way and only got half what you wanted), or good service but daft prices, or they are too far away, or don't open Saturday morning etc. Anyone know of any good ones near Stoke on Trent?

So one guy says he has a problem with one order and before you know it there is a systemic problem with a failing business. Give him a break please before this becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Oh, and I didn't see any white unsliced bread in my local shop today. What's the betting there will be a country-wide shortage by the end of the week....

No, that's right - I did not even look for any. No wonder I saw none.

I have been to the shop a few times and have always found the young chap that runs it to be very helpful. I was suprised to see a young guy running the place actually - as I understand it he took over from his grandad - I hope he does well. I've not tried mail order as the shop is only about 10 miles away.

As already said, it is a bit like a large shed (although I have not been through the back) and certainly looks the part inside. I went over about 2 weeks ago and bought a box full of stuff for a very reasonable price.

Hi just found this group and was amazed to discover people having probs with maccmodels just like me, an item never turned up and there's been no answer to my e-mails, which is a pity because like everyone else I do like a bargain ke100

My reply may be a bit late but just to reassure you Macc Models is a reputable supplier. I've dealt with them for over 20 years, admitably by visiting the shop although it is over 20 miles away. It used to be run by Norman, an active model engineer himself until his death last year. The business was taken over by his grandson - Joe and moved into internet sales, website and more mail order. (this was new tech to Norman) It's still a 'one man band' and I think the increase in mail order business has caused a few problems. Its still a new business to Joe and he needs time to get things running smoothly. Unfortunately communication isn't his strong point - the chances are that an item is out of stock and the order hasn't been despatched - he just hasn't told anyone. Persistance on the phone usually produces results... I must stress I have no connection with the business - just an old friend...

Well it must have been pretty difficult when Norman died, and I hope Joe does well. I continue to use them for the odd bits and pieces, and will continue to do so, and now I know there is a shop, then maybe a visit is in order, as I too am about 20 miles away - near Chester.

Thanks for the clarification.

Hi Im Joe I work, run, make the buttys and all the rest of it for the shop, I have found it very difficult to keep up with the demand of this bussiness of late.

If anyone has any problems or items out standing I apologias, and if you email me and state that it is urgent I will get back to you.

Yes I am closed over xmas as I havent been on holiday for 5 years so hopefully when I return I will feel fresh and hopefully be able to put more into the shop.

again I apologise for any problems you are having.

my email is snipped-for-privacy@maccmodels.co.uk
