Do you know what the difference between a BOC agent and a BOC Tradequip is? BOC have an agent at Westbury, which is a lot closer (I live about 5 miles away from Tim Bird, and thought he might have some local knowledge).

One thing I do not like about the engineering sector is that they don't have many proper online shops. There are scads of sites that offer things for sale, but ... you have to telephone them to find out the prices. Or perhaps they will give the price of a special offer, but you have to 'phone them to buy it. This doesn't happen in other areas, or not to such an extent.

I seldom use the 'phone, and when possible I will buy from an online shop that actually tells me the prices of the stuff they sell, and where I can order from the page. If I want to know something I will email them.

If I am going to collect I will 'phone and ask if something is in stock, but if goods have to be sent I haven't got the time to 'phone around and ask people for their prices and choose the best.

With sites, when I am nowhere near the shop, I want to know the price of things, and if the site doesn't give prices then goodbye, I'm off elsewhere. Normally this isn't a problem, but in engineering there are often only a few people who sell a particular item, and they all hide their prices.

One Google filter for real online shops is "vat", probably the only good thing about vat, but it misses some pages. "Delivery" will find some whole sites, but not linked items for sale. Anyone know any more?

Obviously you have yet to wake up to the limitations of the 'net. Making assumptions that it isn't on the 'net, therefore it doesn't exist seems to be the catch cry of too many these days...

I can sympathise to a degree with that, but strangely our online Yellow Pages are pretty useless for detail, struggling sometimes to find the company, let alone the supplies they sell.

I was looking for something in the paper edition last week, and I thought I was looking for the right heading, but those that work out the headings in Yellow pages must be ex-RS Components, as they are never where you would 'normally' expect them to be!

They had put "Engineering" in front of the header I was looking for.

I think they also supplied the company next door who did micro TIG welding on flow meters, so they are worth a try.
