Your problem stems from the fact that you are a private buyer looking for small quantities/offcuts whatever. Distributors are just not geared up these days to keeping anything in the way of odds and ends, as their paperwork and invoicing and ISO9000 are all geared to buying in stock 5metre lengths and moving them on again.

Commercially, you could find 316L without any problem and would be quoted a commercial price for a commercial quantity. Finding small pieces suggests that you should be talking to someone who actually uses the stuff and see if you can negotiate with them.

The other source you could try for tube is the many tube manipulation specialists who seem to have sprung up in most towns. We have two or three in Luton for example.

For bar product you'll need to talk to a distributor and find out who is buying the stuff from them, then go talk with folding stuff in your hand. Other possibilities are CNC turning companies who run large quantities of hydraulic and pipe fittings on a regular basis for the medical field and so on.

316L is used in medical implants because its low in (I think,) either nickel or cadmium, which can cause reactions and rejection problems, so is also used in the body jewellery business for the same reasons.

I have some 20" offcuts of 5/8" OD x 16 swg wall AISI 316 seamed(welded) tube. Also about 30 metres of 10mm OD x 18swg 316 tube and I think somewhere in my shop I should have some 8mm OD x 18swg 316 tube. If you are in the Halifax area call in if they are any good to you.

I'm in Gloucester Dave.

I have just sent you a mail about the acetal.lol

10mm would be good as well as 8mm. 3mtr of 10mm and 2of 8mm only thing is I don't know what the postage would be like so it might be a case of knock on some firms doors around here again and see if I can get an order with them.
