I got the CNC ready version from Peter (peatol) a few years ago. Cost about the same as John's. Just ring him up, get a price, send a cheque. Or go to the model engineer show at Donnington and buy one. Phone him first though and ask him to take a cnc ready with him, he usually does, but they get snapped up quickly!

You WILL get loaded with approx 10-21% import duty, + carriage + VAT + handling charge by uk carrier for collecting the above money, and IF the customs are feeling particularly picky, it may get refused import as it's not CE approved!!

The point is that the CE regs include (amongst other things) regs on the amount of interference (airborne & injected into the mains) that the device can cause. Whether it is private use or industrial makes no difference if you end up trashing the neighbour's radio/TV reception, for example. But in practice, that is very unlikely to be a problem.

You still (as the seller) have to CE certify. The better or equivalent standards simply means that you don't have to re-test.

However, as far as I know these machines don't actually sport the relevant US certification either.

sorry, what do you mean by ex-stock tony? Where did you guys get your steppers and controllers from? I knw you can get steppers from rswww.com but I havnt found any 3 axis driver boards.

Sorry I am just a bit anxious to order the thing :) I did have a look for arc euro? but couldnt find a company by that name. Is there any real benifit from using seperate boards? To be honest I would rather just get a 3 axis kit because I always order the wrong stuff when it comes to electronics! Surley I would need certain reistors depending on the motor specs? Also RS dont have the oz/in rating which doesnt help :(

I got my dad to give peatol a ring today while I was out, and got me some prices. Only problem is he doesnt have a clue about that sort of stuff so his notes make no sense. I am going to send a fax tomorrow to request a price list for everything mill based. My dad wrote down £490 then +£100 for something else, but he doesnt know what. By that he wrote 24 steppers, so perhaps peatol sells the steppers as well for another £100 (although I thought they were nema 23)? Although it does seem a little cheap. Anyway hopefully I will get a price list tomorrow and post it on here if anyone is interested.

Could be £490 for the mill and £100 for the drive motor. The £400 I paid was about two years ago less the motor.

Would this size of motor be adequate for something of a similar size to a Warco Minor or Major or would you need correspondingly larger motors ?

Yeah I expect it is £490 for the cnc ready mill and then the £100 for the motor. Which is still very good value :D Boo I am pretty sure 200oz wouldnt be enough. Those machines are a lot bigger! I think people use 600oz steppers for those, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks for swapping over milgo, all your post via google look just fine. I reported the problem to rcgroups.com too, and they now say they've fixed it. Please don't feel like I was getting at you, I know you couldn't have known there was a problem.

the stepper world ones are old hat as regards design. Modern stepper motor driver are bi-polar or chopper drives that don't use the amount of power or need to old ballast resistors of the unipolar designs. Their FET/ Cruiser offering is basically pathetic. They are offering really old style bulky and heavy type 34 motors with 150 oz in output. Decent type 23's can go over 200 oz in with no problems.

As I have said before Arc Euro are selling some type 23's at 220n/cm or 195 oz in for £39.50 each, brand new. Tel: 0116 269 5693

Yes but the speed and power will be useless. You need around 15 to 20 times the motors rated voltage so for a 3v motor you really need about 45 to 60 volts but often you are limited by what the driver can handle.

As long as it's 4 or 8 wires.

John, do you know what the voltage/current spec is for the motors? Looking for qty 4 NEMA 23's to work with the Xylotex boards, so 30V 2.5A limit.

I've ordered straight from Jeff at Xylotex who takes Paypal. I paid $165 a year ago for the 3 axis + single axis, and $12 shipping = $177 about £97 in todays money. IIRC, I got hit £23 for import duty and VAT by the post office, so grand total around £120.

Ok thanks john. Do arc euro have a website I can order from? Or are they just by telephone? It all makes a little more sense now. Although if you have a motor with 8 wires, how do you wire it to the 4 pin plugs? cheers, milgo.
