unbending (flatening)

Hi grup,
I have a quilt based on revolved surface (part of sphere). Do you have any
ideas on how to flaten the quilt (for laser cutting)?
P.S. I know how to flaten a quilt based on extruded surf. but this doesn't
work with my quilt.
