Certifying with Ellis Mountain motor?

Just noticed on the link that David E-W posted earlier, that Ellis Mountain Motors don't appear on the NAR certified list.

They are however on the Tripoli list.

Does that mean I cannot Level 1 certify with an EM H50 if I am only a NAR member (not TRA?)

NAR S&T can probably answer your question better than anyone else. Most likely, they just haven't kept up to date on current TRA certs.

Short of an official ruling (arbitrary and convenient), yes.

Bit, you can certify just fine on an EM H50 at a NAR launch.

TRA, NAR and CAR have cross acceptance of certifications for sport motors.

It's only at NAR contests that you can only use NAR contest certified motors.

TRA bans NAR certified Kosdon motors.

So it is NOT universal.

Interesting. I have seen firends of mine fly them at TRA launches in 2004

They probably fly rockets instead of hanging out on usenet (with the rest of us silly scandal-mongers), and don't know about the prohibition. It's hard to play exclusion games when nobody knows they're supposed to...

Look at the combined list on the NAR S&T page. You can use anything on that list.

It was made clear to ALL prefects that this was the case.(I was one at the time) If one of the Kosdon loads results in damage at a TRA launch, no insurance!

That's part of the Prefects job - to understand the "weirdness" so that not everyone needs to follow usenet. It's quite simple... No Kosdon loads are valid at any TRA commercial launch.

Thanks for pointing out that link.

Is that like Jerry motors too?

Actually, it's likely worse than that -- if there's a Kosdon motor flown at the launch and something else does damage that incurs an insurance claim, the insurance is void, as the safety code has been violated at the launch.

The same would hold true for both NAR & TRA insurance, as I'd bet both are dependent upon the safety code being followed, as well as state & federal law.

You are correct, the Kosdon decert was made VERY clear to Prefects.

Does Kosdon currently have any motors that are still NAR-certified?

Ah, thanks! I thought they'd expired by now, but apparently they don't expire until the end of this year. I wonder if Frank plans to renew them.

No. TRA & NAR & CAR recognise each others certs.
