1125/1127 is State Law in at least 30+ states. THese NFPA codes which are State Law are enforced by that states State Fire Marshall's... And just incase you forgot, who helped write these NFPA Codes that are State Laws in a majority of the states, the BATFE..........

Okay.

Totally different jurisdictions.

Ok, so what's the legal meaning? Not the dictionary definition, but the meaning as accepted by law? We all know that the law often defines things differently from their dictionary definitions.

Different jurisdictions, but the ATF does have a controlling seat on the NFPA. They make sure that no NFPA codes are passed that do not conform to ATF regs and policy.

Case law with the judges and AFT in firearms cases would provide the meaning real easy for the word sporting purposes.

Sporting purposes, any firearm uses for sporting purposes. lucky AR-15s and other like rifles are uses in sporting purposes.

the case law on that word with the ATF has come to mean any recreational use.

Acommittee member on the NFPA then said in a keynote speach that NO STATE has adopted NFPA 1127.

building codes for buidling a house taken by referance are not civil law, they are codes.

so, may be this might be the same for rocket motors, maybe ?

What you said Ray, they make sure CODES are not passed that do not conform to ATF reg sbased on case, civil and criminal law.

NFPA codes are not a LAW.

It is probably time to resolve this issue either way. TRA is as useless as a tit on a bull, so some "special" group will have to do it.

Correct. That's how they are able to exercize so much power even when they are wrong.

So if I modify a semi-automatic rifle to run full-auto, that'll be ok as long as I use it for "sporting purposes"? Can I get a howitzer to use for sporting purposes?

Besides, the problem isn't just defining "sporting purposes". That's pretty easy. But will the ATF agree that the definition of a "motor" includes unassembled reload kits? Will they accept the fact that the PAD exemption covers reloads? My guess is, it will take another court decision to settle this questions -- not because it's a difficult thing to define, but because the ATF is run by jerks with an anti-rocketry agenda.

So if it's "just" a state code, you don't have to follow it? Is that your point?

Reply to

What if the ATF _doesn't_ "accept" the fact? What are they going to do? Run around in their black windbreakers with orange lettering on the back shooting at everyone who won't let their agents make them stop using "unlicensed" reloads?
