Will Jerry make a deal with Feds and try to bust other rocketeers?

Sure. Some other idiot is going camping and checks their portable stove on board the aircraft. The stove bottle leaks fuel. The camper has a flashlight that has been left on. Fuel ignites. It only burns for a second and by itself poses no threat to the aircraft since this is a Class D cargo compartment. Unfortunately Skippy Irvine has illegally shipped a large box of motors and these are ignited by the short but intense burst of liquid-fueled flame.

It takes about 45 seconds before the aircraft is consumed by fire and it plunges uncontrolled into the California desert.

You claim Mr. Kremer that something like this "just can't happen".

I call BULLSHIT. The DOT has rules in place for a reason. Skippy went against those rules and was fined almost $60,000.

Oh, I must have somehow missed the fact that EVERY SINGLE "hazmat" material is EXACTLY AS DANGEROUS as every other.

Compressed air (as in SCUBA tanks) requires hazmat handling. So does flourine gas. A leaky valve on either is equally dangerous?

I suppose I should point out the equally obvious fact that the Valuejet incident has no connection whatsoever to Jerry, rocketry, or anything else we're talking about.

Rocket motors produce an intense flame. Far more intense than an oxygen generator.

Someone mentioned how they could be ignited. When I want to dispose of propellant slugs, I light them with a Bic lighter. I only use ignitors when they are in a casing.

jerry broke the law, Federal Law. no one but jerry is resposible for that!

It's to bad it happened. When you break a law, you have to be prepared to accept the consequences.

I wish there was a good way for a citizen to easily & cheaply do something about bad laws & regulations. In this specific case, I'm not convinced it's a bad regulation.

Turning in your own suppliers to the government...? I'd certainly call that shady business dealings.

DOT contacted Ken; Ken did not contact DOT. Ken believed Jerry, when Jerry told Ken, he was legal and that is probably what saved Ken from DOT's wrath. What happened to Jerry resulted from his own decisions. Blaming the resulting DOT punitive judgment assessed to him, on other individuals, is ludicrous.

So who first contacted DOT? What started the whole "chain of investigative involvement" in the first place?

(I'm not trying to flame anybody at the moment, Fred, just trying to collect whatever bits of the history I can shake loose from whatever direction it might come, and winnow it out from the mere ill-hearted carping of those who rejoice in another's regulatory difficulties.)

Does it REALLY matter? It could have been the shipping company! It could have been the DOT had a "flag" on stuff Skippy shipped! It could have been the delivery guy that reported that at one of his deliveries, the customer got very excited about getting his "rocket motors" , even though the shipping paper said "airplane parts"! (not even the shipment to the vendor - could it have been you?)

Skippy violated rules he knew were in place! (why else would he claim to have tried to xfer the DOT paperwork to USR or whoever). The "regulatory difficulties" seem to be due to Skippy. He "shipped" without a license. Kind of like "driving without a license". And yes, I know people who "rejoiced" when someone (even a friend) who bragged about "driving without a license" for years finally got caught!

From what I can tell, it appears the Yellow Freight shipment started the process. I know I was asked about the YF shipment, but did not have a clue when asked, and said so. However, I'm sure Jerry may see it differently, no matter what I say.
