Another question - A5M Claude

Several years ago I had a 1/48 scale A5M Claude that I had picked up for a project for the project got shelved for a while, then a while longer, then longer, then we moved, then longerrrrrr; well, you get the idea. Now that I have started finally digging the bulk of my models out of storage I wanted to resurrect the project but, of course, now I can't find the kit.

Does anyone remember the kit? I remember it as being of the "limited production" quality with rather rough surfaces, etc. I suspect that may be why I shelved it the first time. Anyway, if anyone knows where I might find another one, I'd be grateful, Or, even better, does anyone know of a more state-of-the-art kit available in 1/48? My search has, thus far turned up no results.

There was a FineMolds kit some years ago, but I believe it's long OOP. Classic Airframes makes an A5M4. I recall seeing a box recently, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find one.

If it was rough, I'd guess it was the Classic Airframes kit; one of their earlier kits. Curt

Maybe I can be of some small assistance here. I too went for a tour of my stash and found a Mitsubishi A5M4K "Claude". The Mitsubishi Type 99 Carrier Fighter was the first monoplane accepted by the IJN aka J.N.A.F. The A5M4 entered production in 1938 and saw extensive service in China and was still in active service when the Pacific War began; it remained in service until the Summer of 1942. Thereafter it was relegated to Second line and Training Units comprised of earlier variants in addition to the K variant which was a

2 seat trainer with fixed landing gear...The A5M4K 2 seat training variant is the kit marketed by Classic Airframes of Chicago, Kit Number 438; and was made in Czech. I purchased the kit at the IPMS NATS in ATL, 2005 from the CLAF reps, new in shrinkwrap as I recall, for around $40, down from what was labelled as MSRP of $55. (Such a deal?) The box art features an Orange 2 seat trainer with a black cowling and fixed straight "stiff legged" landing gear. Sorry for the long post, but I thought it proper to try to fill in as many blanks as possible so as to identify the aircraft of interest.. Above information is from the side panel of the kit box; I hope you find it useful. Bruce
