I have just experienced a vision changing episode in my life. I very suddenly lost my previously very good up close vision. I am now struggling to find a balance. I love to read and have always been a fast and voracious reader. Never mind the modelling.
I have found the Optivisor system to be extrememly helpful. I have two one with a #10 lens the strongest and a #3 nearly the lowest. I also have the attachment Optiloupe which gives another 2.5 Mag on an as needed basis.
Though I haven't started any models yet, my preliminary experiments suggest I should be fine. that it will be a winner. It doesn't seem to work as well for reading, but that my be just me.
They also make a very intensely bright little light that clips to the visor amd runs off I think 2 AA batteries. They make a belt mount for the battery pack with a long cord and another with a shorter cord that mounts the battery pack on the visor. I bought the belt mount but I didn't like it as I found the cord gets in the way a bit. So I just looped it up and attached it to the visor. No problem.
Yeah, I'm now using the "Visor of Vision" to combat presbyopia. This is a Chinese knock-off of the Optivisor. It's got two elements with a third exterior loupe, lights on both sides; I find using only one keeps it from being too heavy. I got mine from Modelexpo in Florida. hth
