Read the Wikipedia article. The Tamiya kit is of a 'toaster tank' /5 ('Slash 5') model, with the big chrome panels on the sides, introduced in 1972. There was the late /5 production of a 'LWB' (long wheelbase) model with the drive shaft housing shown in one of the Wiki photos. Finally, the /6 was introduced for 1974. So the kit is a '72, or '73 SWB, or '73=BD LWB model. Not that anyone but a /5 fanatic could tell the difference among them.

As an addendum, the Tamiya R75/5 Police version has a tank that appears to be correct for the '70 and '71 R75/5. So, if you are building one for somebody with one of the earlier bikes, you may need to look for a 'parts kit' for the tank.
Good luck. I can tell you a lot more about the various smaller scale R100s ...

those are ok, but i'll hang on to that r69s. just need to paint the summabitch. maybe hot pink to give the beemer snots heart failure. hmmm, i could chop it....
or look in walneck's classic cycle trader for one of the 100's of parts places. could be a lot cheaper.
