Help with Soviet aircraft

Nov 14, 2004 8 Replies

I was watching a show on PBS, pre history channel, and saw an aircraft very similar to a DC-3 C-47 but it had turret mounted behind the cockpit. I am fairly certain that it was not an early version of the Fruitbat. Does anyone know the Designation of this aircraft? Are there any models of it? Thanks Scott There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Mental Illness."

Lisunov Li-2?

Turret was further back than "turret mounted behind the cockpit", though.

It was essentially a copy of the DC-3 with a different cockpit layout, different engines.

There was a vacuform from a Russian company called Leagion in the mid-1990s.

In 1/72, you can get a DC-3/C-47 kit (ESCI or Italeri are the better ones)and a turret from an Il-4 (there are several kits around). The engines and cowlings should be like those of a B-17. You need to rescribe the cargo door in a different position and the undercarriage retraction arm was slightly different. My scanner's Tango Uniform, anyway let me know if you're interested in plans.

I would love some plans?

Can you post in a.b.m.s?

Thanks!

and told you to scroll down to the bottom of the page for his pictures of the Li-2 at the Victory Park museum in Moscow. The turret and bombs aren't original, but at least it's being looked after. According to my references the turret equipped aircraft are designated Li-2VP, but that could be wrong / over simplified. Oh, apparently the ASCC knew them as "Cab".

Jon.

He would have also pointed you to his Monino website and a page of Li-2 photos - if he hadn't lost the links !!

Must get them sorted over the Christmas hols.....
