Hi Scott,

I'm living near Saumur. If I can help you, fell free to ask what you need.

Thank you for the kind offer. Could you tell me anything about the museum, such as extent of the WWII collection, etc.? I don't speak French, would this hinder my visit?

Anything information would be helpful.

Thanks again,

Scott

Scott a émis l'idée suivante :

You're welcome Scott. Uou have different way to have informations about the mmuseum and its collection.

The first one is their website:

- presentation:

- collection:

allied forces WWII:

german forces WWII:

eastern forces:

etc... It's a fabulous museum.

You can find a lot of walkarounds made in this museum on my website

In the museum, all the informations are in French, English and German languages, so your visit will certainely be pleasant. Don't think than

1 half day will be enough to well visit it... A complete day would be better... or more. There are a lot of material, and everything is really interesting.

Do you need to know something else? If yes feel free to ask.

At the moment Bovington is torn up for renovation and something like half of the collection is not on view or is rammed together where it is virtually inaccessible. Overall I think it has the better collection but that's a moot point if you can't see it.

Since Bovington is being fixed, Saumur is your only other choice, but it is an excellent one. They do have a large amount of German armour, as well as a nice French collection, to which I am most partial. Saumur is a nice town also. If you arrive there by train, you'll need bus or taxi from station to get to the museum. It would be too far to walk. French language is useful to know around the town, but once in the museum, the old tanks speak for themselves.

Thanks for the heads-up about the Bovington collection being "unavailable". That is definitely a major concern. I think their web site said something about any work being done before June or July. While I'm still not sure if I will be going to Bovington or Saumur (or if I'm very lucky - both) check into this further.

Thanks again for the help!
