Re: [Q] Funny box art?

The RAAF got their first F-111 in September of 1968.

Hmmm - true, but not so accurate in the context of this thread. The RAAF did indeed take delivery of it's first F-111 in September '68, but the aircraft remained in the USA until 1973.

The Aussie order for 24 F-111's was placed in 1963, with delivery requested for 1967. Various problems with the aircraft led to a delay in delivery, during which time F-4E Phantoms were leased from the US to maintain strike capability.

RAAF personnel were transferred to the US and took delivery of the first aircraft on 6 September 1968, but persistent problems with the wing carry-through box delayed delivery of the remaining 23 aircraft until late 1969. To make matters worse, the entire F-111 fleet was then grounded pending review of their overall structural integrity!

The delivery of the first F-111's to Australia was in June 1973. I remember this day clearly, as I was then a 10 year old schoolboy at Nudgee Junior College and our class was allowed to run outside and watch the aircaft complete a low pass over Brisbane (which fortuitously, went right over the school) before landing at their new home at Amberley.

Therefore, the boxwork on the kit is historically incorrect!!!

But the first F-111 wasn't delivered to Australia until late 1973, they were in storage pending the resolution of structural issues. So it should be there, and complete. . .

Can anyone point me at an online pic of this please? You've really got my mind wondering now! (Can't get the Academy website to work properly.)

A lot would depend on the angle and perspective of the artwork. from some directions it is possible to see the bridge and not the opera house in the same view and vice versa

This is from a Russian modelling site (it had the biggest pic of the boxart)

The bridge should start to the right of the opera house and pass roughly through the area the signature appears.

Stealth Bridge.

A Brisbane skyline would be more likely, considering where they are based. The only time you'll see them over Sydney, as pictured, is doing a dump-and-burn for some special event.

But who outside of Australia would know it's Brisbane? The Rock and the Opera House shout Australia to the world.

My favorite is the 1/144 Minicraft Blue Angels C-121J that labels the aircraft a "Super Consolation." Runner-up: The 1/72 Academy Boeing Stratocruiser proudly named the "Clipper Nitengale."

Ideally I would ~love~ "NOTA", but as that cannot happen in a functioning society, realisticly I will settle for a new crop of thieves, then bitch about them, most like. That is on the local level. On the state level we have little say in the matter as NYC controls the state government and I don't see secession from "downstate" anytime soon On the Federal level, we ~have~ to get someone in who'll work to fix the economy, not lie and blame the preceeding administration's policies, where if you check the records, unemployment was down, the budget was under control and and the Stock Market was sound. I know that Billy-boy got the occasional hummer

-- so what? That's between him and his wife. I know that he qualified for a legitimate college deferment during the Vietnam era -- so what? Lots of American men did that as well. Shrub had one, himself. Until he got out of school, and signed up for the Texas Air Guard (putting himself, because of Daddy's connections) ahead of 500 other men on the waiting list. Then, after he was in, he went AWOL for 22 months. There was a guy in WWII who tried that, name of Eddie Slovac, IIRC. They shot him. Shrub didn't even get office hours (Article 15, UCMJ) Billy was a disappointment to me, okay? Shrub disgusts me. Did I want Gore? No. Did I want Nadar? No Did I want any of the other clowns? No

Maybe we ~should~ have "None of the Above" and force the parties to come up with candidates who ~know~ what they are doing.

Sorry, I'll turn the rant mode off, stumble out for a cuppa coffee and go back to model building. Have a good (and safe) Independence Weekend.

Slight amendment to what you said. Clinton surfed on the economy Bush 1 created... the upturn started before Billy and his Willie took office.

We're surfing on the economy Clintler created, now. The downturn began before he left office. Enjoying it?

Until Bush burns down a church full of children because their parents exercised a Constitutionally guaranteed right, he is still way ahead of Clinton.

Clinton lied to the ROTC officer in Arkansas. And then left the country for England and the Soviet Union.

At the same time Bush was sitting in the cockpit of an F-102 interceptor. Whether or not he had help getting in I would say he made quite a committment in any case. And F-102 were used out of Thailand as MiG patrol. And it at the very least possible that his ANG unit could have been rotated there.

Enormous difference.

Heck it's just an anamorphic distortion. They turned the Circular Quay into the Elliptical Quay (as if it were really circular to begin with) .

Or maybe Paul Hogan used the wrong color paint!

Sorry for the late reply, but I've just got back to my confuser after the IPMS/US nationals followed by a road trip.

I Recall a kit several years ago, I'm not certain of the MFR, but it was a a Fiat (?) Aircraft with Swiss (?) Markings, getting the crap shot out of it by AA Fire.

And that's no bs, either. I've just read a magazine article detailing which areas of the rock you can take pics of. The restrictions apply to everyone, except pros. If a pro wants to shoot the rock - start filling in forms, pal. I kid you not. If anyone wants to know more, I pass the article on.
