Isn't it true that Maryland has its "liberal" reputation because of three counties (Montgomery, Prince George's, and Baltimore), while the rest of the state is conservative? (Of course, those three counties are where the votes are...)

Townsend lost because (a) she ran a lousy campaign, and (b) people were fed up with the excesses of the Glendenning administration. Ehrlich came in with a lot of goodwill, but, IMO, blew it with his one-note program for legalizing slot machines. Slot machines are *not* a panacea; instead, they bring a host of social problems.

Actually, I've seen the map where we join up with Canada and let the rest of country turn into 'Jesusland'. Droll, very droll.

Geographically and historically...no....but you must admit, that at times, it seems Maryland seems to want to identify "culturally and politically" with the "North East" (hence Shuey's explanation).

Obviously no connection between literacy and common sense...
