Revell 4561 (Yeager F-18)

Well, finally got my hands on this older kit. Yes, I was interested in it specifically for "d'skink" color scheme. The kit itself looks... eh... (Cockpit? You're kidding, right? Makes the Testors kit look superdetailed. Kind of odd overall parts breakdown, too - take the Testors kit, clip the wings off, give it a lousy cockpit, then glue it all back on after simplifying the parts.)

Looking at the instruction sheet, it looks almost like this is a late single-seat prototype.

Anyone have any info (and/or pics) of the *actual* aircraft? Was it a prototype, or early production, and how long did this scheme last? (Yes, the questions sound familiar - but I couldn't google successfully for the answer.)

Doubt I'll actually build the kit (for more than painting practice,) but I really like the scheme.

The airplane was an A model I believe, used for a specific test program. I saw it on a flight ramp once or twice.

You can tell how early or late an A (or whatever) model by looking at the Buno and comparing it with a reference.
