slightly off topic.

Hmm, I got introduced to the economics of capitalism by a notable black economist, Thomas Sowell. I was extremely surprised to discover that he used to be a Marxist. Just goes to show that enough self-education and innate intelligence *can* trump the institutionalized education system :-) So, OK, he may be an "outlier" LOL

:-)

Sad but oh so true.

I did not know that. But he is clearly the exception to the rule. And given the public and private statements of Van Jones it seems rather unlikely that he's had a change of heart and politics.

If anyone dislikes the system that is being proposed and is collecting either VA medical benefits or Medicare (Senior Citizen healthcare - NOT Welfare Healthcare - I can never get those two names straight), then you're collecting a government-run health program that seems to be working quite well. I've come to find that a large percentage of the screaming and disingenuous ads fighting this new proposal are from the Health Insurance companies who currently have a license to steal. I HAVE known folks in Canada who use their country's health care with NO problem whatsoever. Their care is as good or better than anything they'd get here. The only thing that they do have to wait for is elective medical procedures, like tummy tucks or nose-jobs. And all those doctors moving to the United States to practice, well that does happen, mostly because those doctors realized that they can charge what they want and clean up royally, instead of having the government tell them how much they can charge. Anyway, back to modeling......

You are familiar with the concept of freedom and free markets are you not.

The government tells far to many people what they should be doing and how they should do it already.

...if it's working for you. I know a few people for whom it's not working. And a few other returning Vets that have opted for private care because the bureaucracy as briefed to them on return is just plain a nightmare.

OTOH, I also have an uncle that's a WWII vet that is getting great care...just because he happens to live where there is a stellar example of a VA hospital...

Point being that the VA system is no panacea as an example...same for Medicare/Medical. More and more doctors in my area are refusing new patents under those systems because the systems simply doesn't pay them for their expense.

I myself have to travel 300 miles to find the services I need...and I have Blue Cross. And more of the nation is in my situation than all you city dwellers, I'd wager.

I think all the screaming and ads are perfectly "genuous". They are just coming from a segment of the country that generally doesn't get listened to - the "fly-over" segment. We're pissed...

And yeah - I've personally known folk on both side of the fence from Canada, to the UK, to Germany...and corresponded with few that have left the UK to go to Germany because they can get better care there - one is even a healthcare professional from the UK - an illeostomist - whom is now on total disability herself arising from very condition she treats...treated. I have relatives in DEtroit that talk about Canadian citizens coming down to Motown for procedures all the time. And I know a gal locally from NZ whose mother had to wait a year for a hip replacement. And even still, I'm sure there are other folk that do "just fine" under their own systems. But none of that has anything to do with OUR system.

Bottom line is that comparisons in this case are pretty much useless, IMO. Population size, Population segment, population makeup, cultural differences, infrastructure, personal ability, etc. REQUIRE a tailored solution in each case...there's FAR too much politicing and power-grabbing going on over the state of healthcare AVAILABILITY in the USofA, and not enough thinking. Not NEAR enough thinking. You can tell by all of the "well it works for them, so let try it" mentality. Big deal..."they" ain't "us".

We should be solving our OWN problem. If there even is one...which I doubt, other than the blind failure that insurance of any type gives rise to...

...now back to packing up my Stratocaster.

That's all well and good while I still have a choice. I imagine that within a few years i won't.

Frankly, I think we can all agree that there is very little real information being presented, but plenty of shouting with just a teeny, tiny sliver of "truth" in it to keep it from being an out and out falsehood.

The sad thing is that people are more concerned about their fantasy football picks and "'merikan i dull" return than they are being a part of the decision making process. And the crooks on the hill full well know it.
