LOL

I also thought the concept of stashing was badly flawed, but that was because I didn't understand the situation. When I last built model aircraft regularly, back in the early 80s, there was no need to acquire a stash. Whatever kit or decal sheet that I wanted was always freely available.

Nowadays that simply isn't true. Consider 1/72 F-4s. I would have thought that every single sub-type would always be available from Hasegawa, but it's not so. The only ones that seem to be regularly available are the Japanese marks. Everything else is released as a limited edition. When I started building F-4s, I was horrified to find that there were no C, D, G, J or S kits available. Therefore, when these kits *are* released, I buy three or four of them, just in case... when I next want to build an F-4D, who is to say that such a kit will be available. I've been building model aircraft on a regular basis again for two and a half years and in that time there is

*still* no re-release of a Hasegawa F-4G on the horizon.

So that's why I stash! Apart from the F-4G and F-4S, I can now build *any* subtype of F-4 (including the Brit ones) at a whim!

Pfft! 100? I'm getting close to 300 and just bought my *sixth* Polar Lights '65 Dodge (in fairness, I've already sold one off, built one, and have the convertible nearly together) this past week. Why? I didn't have the *white* one yet ... =8^0

No. These are simply extra parts for something you already have. If you can hide them in the box of the project for which they are intended, so much the better since it officially becomes *one model* again.

The method of acquisition is irrelevant. Whether by getting to the mail before she does or by leaving it in the car overnight so you can slip it in the next day when she's out for the afternoon, SMITH (Sneaking Models Into The House) is still the same kind of gratification.

As do we all. I really gotta build something ...

I have a certain number of rules regarding adding kits to my stash, in a desperate - and probably futile - attempt to prevent my Main Stash exceeding 100 kits. So, I have a number of questions... =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0

You are worried about exceeding 100 kits? You must not =A0 be trying... =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0= =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0= =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0= =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0= =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0Bruce

Silly Me. ...... And all this time I thought that 100 Kits was the Absolute Minimum amount to be able to call a Stach a Stach

SMITH!

I'll have to remember that one! LOL

Actually, that's true. Each one of those Spit 24s that provides an engine for a XIV or XIX can also provide a rear fuselage for a XVI. I've done something similar already. Two Hasegawa MkIXs and an Airfix 24 produced a XIV and a XVI.

The Fujimi S and G are readily available, and the Hasegawa S isn't totally gone either. Well, at least not according to HLJ.

100 kits? 200? You youngsters never cease to amaze me.

100 kits is the rock bottom beginning of a stash. 100 kits fit into a closet. 100 kits is what you pick up at an IPMS Nats. 100 kits is what you keep on hand for replacement parts. Hell, 100 kits is the started pile!

200 kits. Now you're getting the idea. You start looking for a place to put everything. If you're pussy-whipped you start developing some serious issues. Paranoia starts to break the surface.

At 500 it's too late for you. At 1000 you start doubting your own sanity.

At 2000 the house next door starts looking like a good buy. In my case a fantastic wife with a major Disney habit agrees.Opening up the attic helps, but that takes tme and money.Insulation, vents, flooring and shelves. In the mean time t's getting difficult to find anything in the garage.

At 2000 you also intentionally slow the buyng down. Now that I can afford just about any kit that want there's no room. This week's Squadron order is only two tanks, a car, an aircraft and set of bombs. Nowadays each and every purchase has a purpose. The bombs are for a P-40 project. The aircraft and the tanks are WWI for a book that 'm working on. The car s a Tatra T-97. Who in hell is going to pass that one up? I mean, it's got a fin like a shark and it was used by the military yet.

So take the above as a warning. The first 100 opens the door. Someday it may have to be the door to buying the house next door.

Apparently the Hasegawa S will be re-released shortly in the UK. I don't really want to start using Fujimi kits for J79 engined Phantoms. I'm not convinced that they will match the Hasegawa ones. I have an old Esci RF-4C that looks scrawny in comparison to the Hasegawa F-4s.

I'm quite happy to use Fujimi kits for Brit Phantoms, however. Firstly, they are the only game in town... and secondly, they are excellent.

I have the same thing going with my 1:1 UrS6. Parts and goodies show up at work, and I SMITH them as well...

Sneak Mods Into The House.

Also the same kind of gratification.

Most of my stash (accumulated over 35 years) is gone now. I guess I'll have to start again some day. Build every FW190 variant, or some such.

Or every WWII German nightfighter in 1:48.

E.P.

P.S. Got one of Al's kits - the Tamiya 1:24 UrQuattro. Now I gotta decide what color scheme I'm going to use...

Yes. That's the one in my own house. I have a Deep Stash that is located in my mum's house, two hundred miles away. It's not very large (maybe 30 or so kits), but it is made up of some interesting ones. There are a lot of ex-FROG kits in Novo packaging. Marylands, Baltimores, Gannets, Magisters, Typhoons, a Javelin etc. There is a Tamiya 1/48 F-15 and a 1/32 F-14. The kits in my Deep Stash may never get built...

Then there is my Railway Stash...

DAMN...I forgot about the "deep stash" at Ma's house...yeah, I got one of those, too...both plastic and R/C. But most of those are built...I think. I seem to remember that there's about half a Panzer Division under a bed...somewhere.

Oops...an R/C stash...I'm in deeper than even I thought...
