thunderbirds are go

He's been working on this for years, but I think the hold up has been financing. Hopefully the project has moved forward again. I think the original intnetion was to do new imaged to original soundtrack but I think GA nixed that idea in favour of all new. Hopefully it will be a notch up from the Dan Dare series (which again played too loose and fast with the DD legend and even failed to credit Frank Hampson, but that's nothing new).

GA apparently has a fondness for CS, saying it was his "darkest"puppet show. Me, I'd like to see him do a "UFO" movie.

That series rocked!

Gerry was offered a lot of money to say nice things about the new movie, but he refused. He said that he had his credibility to think of.

There's two stories circulating about why Lady P's car isn't a Rolls.

1: Rolls Royce declined on the grounds that they didn't have the time to design and build the new car. 2: They didn't want to know because they thought the film would suck and they didn't want Rolls Royce to be connected with a turkey.

Believe which story you want.

What puzzles me is that a full sized FAB 1 already exists. It was built in the 60's to promote the two Thunderbirds puppet movies. OK, it's not road legal, but it would've saved the film makers a heap of money. It's also the only car in the world that's allowed to wear the Rolls Royce badge, but wasn't built by Rolls. It's actually a cut down Bedford bus.

That's what you get when you want to make a Spy Kids film. I can imagine the conversations in the scriptwriting room;

"We need more kids"!

"Hmmmm, Brains has a son"

"Great, but we need more".

"How about we get rid of the pubes on Tin Tin"?

"FANTASTIC"!

Rest assured, Carlton has picked up the series. I've seen assorted photos of the new series that due to be aired next year. Thus far, it looks damm good. The redesigns of the uniform and assorted craft have been less radicle than Thunderturds. The new Angle Interceptor looks a real kick-ass machine. The CGI rendition of Captain Black is uncanny. He looks just like his 60's puppet. The only thing missing at this time are the shades that the Spectrum crew used to wear. I had a soft spot for those.

I doubt they had a hand in the scrip or the special effects though. I don't know if you've spoken (or indeed speak) to Matt Irvine recently, I wonder what he thinks of this?

I can't quite see why they would want to do that, other than to introduce a child into the film to appeal to younger audiences, perhaps that's why it's a "prequel" too, and I do detest prequels.....

The "wings" seem to start right at the rear, then sort of fan out, strange.

Sounds great. I've seen some images from the CGI version and it looks pretty good. It was always one of the things that irked me about the puppet series, even when I was a youngster, was that the (painted) images on the end credits always looked more exciting than the episode I just watched!

I was talking to someone the other day about how bizarre Joe 90 was - I mean, each week Joe gets put into a machine that put him through a mind-altering psychadelic trip, and then they give him a gun!

Imagine selling that one to TV execs today!

For anyone interested in the CGI series, there is a lot of information available at this site (and lots from the original series too!):

And of course you can also find information about the TB movie, the new CS series AND the Joe 90 movie (!) here:

(the Joe 90 info is on the "news" page -- beware, Disney's involved...)

Me too! It's been rare for me to find anyone that watched Fireball XL-5, and now I'm finally finding more and more fans of late.

The BBC show Top Gear did a review of the Ford Thunderbird car that Parker drives for Lady Penelope. They tried to drive it from London to Norwich and it kept getting stuck in villages and on roundabouts. The car is just too long to be practical.

The "Captain Scarlet" CGI series certainly *looks* neat! The new "Falcon"/Angel Interceptor would be a spectacular addition to the collection!

We didn't admit it in the past, ha ha... I don't remember ever watching Thunderbirds (I don't even know if it was on TV locally), but I could still sing you the theme song to Fireball XL-5. And I always LOVED the launch sequence...
