I think you have to look at when some of those things were written and how fast the pace of progress was back then. In the 1960s, the previous 30 years had seen us go from rickety biplanes to rockets orbiting the Earth, so it would not have been hard to summise that the next 30 years would see similar scientific breakthroughs.

I'm personally gutted that, by 1999, we were'nt wearing nylon jumpsuits with falred trousers.

Bummer.

When it comes to Britain's longests running comedy show, Blackadder is way out - it ran for four series over 6 years, with some 24 episodes and a couple of specials.

Red Dwarf still makes me laugh, i met Hattie Haydidge (female Holly) when i lived in Golders Green about 91, she signed a book i took with me to the comedy nigh(worked on door of club and diy) and a month later she sent to the club a signed b/w thats on my wall now.

So, did anyone see the new movie? What do you think of the new "updated" designs of the Thunderbird craft?

I really liked the new TB-1 and 3. But for me TB-2 is sacred and the original design was wonderful.

I read somewhere that the designers for the movie took the same approach as the designers of the Volkswagon New Beetle and the new Min-Cooper: Update the design but keep it recognizable, paying homage to the original designs.

I really liked the movie and my 5 and 8 year old kids were amazed. But, with the return receipts it appears we were in the minority and for one reason or another the movie was a failure not only in the U.S. but also in its home country, the U.K.

Some of the complaints I've seen included the fact that too much time was spent on the Island chase and although there was a lot of hardware in the movie, the story line should have centered around a "rescue" with all team members involved.

It was kind of stupid that the filmmakers went to such detail to reproduce the Thunderbirds concept yet did some silly things like calling each member of the International Rescue team a "Thunderbird" when in fact the ships were "Thunderbirds" not the ships AND the pilots.

The movie looks to have bombed. Here in baltimore none of the 1st run houses seem to have carried it. I see it at the $2.00 a ticket neighborhood houses right now, but that's all.

Actually, of all the updated craft, I really love the new TB2, I think its actually cooler than the original, and that's coming from someone who had a succession of Dinky TB2s (and always lost the TB4 that came with it).

I've read stories that BMW Mini actually started life as different car altogether! I think BMW also missed the point that the idea of a Mini is that its a *small* car, not some bloated hatchback with a Mini badge on the front.

The irony is that the original TV series was still pulling in the ratings and selling toys as recent as a couple of years ago!

I'm hoping to see the film soon, but the one complaint I've heard is that it lacks what made Thunderbirds great - ie lots of explosions!

And giving Brains a son.
