UK Military Modeling Magazine - What Happened?

Anybody know the whole story on what happened to this magazine? I know we heard that the publisher ran into financial trouble - but I'm dismayed how one of the best and longest running mags in the hobby just kind of fell into a black hole. Cookie, I know you were a frequent contributor - have you heard whether there's any hope for a resurrection?

Hasn't gone anywhere as far as I know. It's still on the rack at our local newsstand--in fact, they just reduced the US prices a bit. Perhaps your local distributors simply dropped it. If you search for it online, be sure to spell "Modelling" with two L's (it's a British thing). Check out their website at

Gerald, thanks for the response - and I stand corrected on the spelling. However - look at the site - the "current" issue shows July. Have you seen later issues on the newstand? When I contacted the American distributor months ago, they said it had suspended publication.

Well, I'm looking at the August issue--it has Steve Zaloga's article on correcting the Academy M3 Lee kit. I'll look around to see if I have any more recent issues. Gerald Owens

"Military Modelling" was published by Highbury House who ran a number of magazines. They basically went into the British equivalent of Chapter 11 and had to sell off their magazine group. The new company who bought them was Encanta who had different distributors and distribution rights, so one of the things that most people outside the UK noted was the change of distribution and sudden lack of availablility of the magazine.

It's still going strong -- the latest issue is their annual wrapup over Euromilitare and covers that show in great detail.

Cookie, thank you for the info - the web site appears to be way out of date, and Squadron doesn't seem to carry the magazine anymore - I can't seem to have any luck finding an alternate source in the US via Google. Can you by any chance recommend a source? The old American distributor, Wise Owl, were the ones that told me the magazine had gone out of publication.

Went through the same problem wth Scale Aircraft Modelling and After the Battle.

Barnes & Noble opened up a big store very nearby a week ago. I went in with my list of magazines to ask them to pass on to their magazine distributor and the already had these two on the shelf.

Now I'm trying to fill in the gaps.
