warning - slightly OT

Hi All:

In today's e-mail dump along with adds for generic viagra, penis enlargers, offers to do business with Nigerian officials, etc., was a note that my "U.S. Bank Account" was frozen. They say because it had been "compromised" by people involved in money laundering and drug dealing and they needed to re-affirm my account ownership. I have been warned that this is a scam designed to get the unwary to hand over account numbers and locations to crooks. Be wary what turns up in your e-mail and don't fall for this BS. Warn the wife and kids too! God, the amount of garbage that turns up on this computer beats anything that ever turned up on the telephone. Telemarketers one can ignore, it's the Spammers that are a pain.

My latest mailbox invasion is a whole bunch of messages with readable, but meaningless English words strung together. For the life of me I cannot figure out the purpose or "scam" aspect of this flood. Virus sent e-mails? No attachemnets come with them.

A friend of mine responded to a Nigerian Letter once. He informed them that he was a Gypsy prince and that what they were doing earned them a good old-fashioned Gypsy curse.

He made up a convincing curse and felt pretty good about it until he began receiving a dozen Nigerian Letters a day. He used to get one or two a week. Oops!

Hi Vess, the "legible" but garbled notes you're getting are, or may be from an outfit selling cable descamblers. I get them too.

Be well.

In my case, I answered to a couple of them and asked for "more" detailed info or specifics and...Silence.

so then just what is the point? I've heard that spam is so cheap to send out to millions of addresses so it only takes a few idiots to send $$$ for pills for a 2 foot Mr. Happy, but I get things in Japanese, all various types of punctuation, etc. and all make no sense. I would think sending something out in a readable form would be a basic thing, even for the a*hole spammers....

What's your email address. Do you take PayPal? Kim M :+)

*My* Mr. Happy is happy enough that I don't *need* to introduce "him" to pharmaceuticals...
