I use Win2000Pro SP3, 870 Intel CPU, Quadro FX 500, 512 RAM
XP Pro will work just fine, but I personally like Win2000 better.

The Athlon XP is a pretty good chioce IMO, I have 3 PC's at home all with AMD CPU's and couldnt be happier. My main set up is using the nForce2 chipset and works well. For your video card I would still stick with nVidia. I run all ATI at home, but I still think nVidia has the best compatability and drivers for Pro cards (although ATI is catching up FAST!).
I think that WinXP is the best choice for your OS.
