BOM question

I always put my Bill of Materials on one end of my mold drawings. I have been working on a monster mold for a couple of months. Monday I'll be finally wrapping it up and one of the last things I'll be doing is inserting an Excel-based BOM. I just realized today as I was putting in o-rings and bolting everything together that there is no way in hell that it is going to fit on an e-size drawing. Definitely won't fit vertically-probably not even hoizontally. Is there a way to break it so that I can get it on a sheet?

If not, I suppose the alternative would be to insert the thing so that I can balloon the beast. Then save it out as an excel file, hide the BOM and print out the excel file.

Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is a way to break a BOM into multiple columns, but I haven't needed to do so in several years. I'm confidant that I was working with Excel based BOMs at the time. I have already checked the SolidWorks help looking for reminders/clues, but I found nothing. If a get a chance later today, I will do some experimenting and post my results.

Are you able to use the SW BOM. It does allow you to split it either horizontal or verticle.

Thanks for the replies. I also looked in the help before posting the first time and didn't see anything. I hadn't thought about using the `new' BOM. Never got around to checking it out because the other way was working for me. I suppose I can look into that.

Thanks again.

On the Excel-based BOM, right-click and go to the properties. On the control tab you have options for splitting the table.

That was it-piece of cake. Never even saw it there before. Thanks, Dale.

Hi JK-

Recently I also found that the "new" BOM can be split and that the split segments can be cut-copied to a completely new sheet. The tabular-BOM can traverse sheets if needed.

Now if they could only optimize the space usage . . .

Thanks for the info. I thought I was going to need to do just that, but made it all onto one sheet with 2 splits (3 columns). What a beast....
