Dynamic Mass Properties

Nov 20, 2003 6 Replies

Hi,

Is there a way to use the center of mass coordinates to create a point (that would become evantually a sphere) that will be dynanically updated (new CG) each time that the geometry of my part or solid bodie would change? Thanks for your help.

Pablo,

The only way I know of is with a macro feature. I haven't really done enough with macro features to tell you exactly how, unfortunatley.

do you know visual basic or c++?

Hi Sean,

I know very little of visual basic and nothing about C++, but give me the basic ideas and I'll see what I can do from there, thanks.

Pablo,

Do a google search on this user group. Type in "CG Macro" and you will several different versions. They should provide for the basis for further customization if they don't do what you want.

Hello Pablo,

Try this:

formatting link
Open this and start suppressing features to see the CG update. The macro and the model must be in the same folder, and of course you'll need to be running SW2003 or newer version of SolidWorks, because it uses the Macro Feature capability. BTW, I would love to give credit to whoever wrote this macro but I got it from someone else, and there's no name in the macro. So if you're reading this and this is your macro, thank you, I've benifited from it.

If I remember correctly, Mike Wilson did some Macro Feature work back when it came out - might be his.
