I want my old "feature scope" functionality from sw2005 back!

Many of my clients have been slow to upgrade to 2006. I've finally been really digging into it the past couple months.

I've been trying to live without the old "feature scope" functionality from 2005 and previous versions, but I'm about to go insane.

I often design in sort of a brute-force section view mode. I'll section an assembly, but then right click several parts while editing the section cut and toggle whether they're part of the feature scope or not.

With the new functionality, I can't see the parts as I'm trying to toggle whether they're part of the feature scope or not. I have to instead select them from the feature tree while editing the assembly cut feature.

I hate having to go, "ok, now I have to remember I have to toggle PN's

1233, 1234, 1235, and 1236, but not 1237, 1238, 1239, etc.

For those that may suggest using the section view feature instead, it doesn't allow me to include some parts but not others, so it does not solve my problem.

Has anyone found a workaround for this new "enhancement", which I like to call, "solidworks changed something so now I have to figure out how to do what I used to do a different way..."

I love solidworks, but these types of things drive me nuts.

Hmmmm...I no longer have 2006 installed, but I played around with an assembly in 2007.

I made the following assumptions regarding your method:

- You have an assembly in which you create a assembly feature cut extrusion to do your "brute force" sectioning.

- You are referring to editing the model, and not a drawing.

I guess I am not sure what is missing from your description? When creating or editing a assembly feature cut, the last section in the Feature Manger pane is where you can select the feature scope. By default, it uses "All components", but you can easily change it to "Selected components" and the pick the parts you want to section from the modeling area.

Evil aren't they? I liked it as before as well. Here's what I do:

  1. Create a new Display State
  2. Create an assembly sketch & cut
  3. Go to feature scope and select first outer component to section
  4. Move mouse off component and back onto it again
  5. RMB that same component and select hide or change transparency, now you can see inside
  6. Repeat on all other components
  7. Finish cut feature
  8. Delete (or keep) display state
