Item Balloon for Loctite

If there's only one Loctite used in the assy, you could make your balloon text call out "Loctite", rather than "Item 10".

Could you make the loctite a sleve surface and mate it to the bolts. You could insert the bolts as a sub assy with one config with the loctite and one without.

Put a sketch in the loctite model, when you want to add the balloon ref in the drawing switch on view sketches in the drawing view, select the sketch in the loctite model, this will give you the correct balloon ref, then switch off the view sketches. This method allows auto renumbering of the loctite balloon ref as well.

Very simply use a note annotation. After inserting your item number, select the annotation and in the Property frame on the left select "Circular" for BORDER, and specify whether you want "Tight Fit" or "One character" or "Two characters", etc., to jibe with the way you do item balloons there at your company.

That's correct, Wayne -- it's just a note annotation. It's the simple solution, but may not be the best solution, especially if changes may be implemented by someone besides the original designer down the line.

I thought you could select components from the feature manager, but I just tried in 2003 and it did not work. You should be able to use the feature manage IMHO. Sounds like you should submit a request to your VAR for SWX to add this function.

Personally, I don't understand how you can use the default item number, considering it could change. I guess if your users are properly trained and understand the software, but still is one more thing to keep up with. I create a custom field for each part, but I have the confidence it will not be reordered because I am woring in my assembly. Still wouldn't help with blank components.

I remember Mechanical Desktop (it makes me shutter just typing those words) had a part reference that you could added to the drawing. You placed an * on the drawing sheet and linked it to a part number. Then when you wanted a ballon to reference your loctite number, you clicked on the *. When you we're done with your balloons, you toogled the *'s visiblity Off. I was wondering if SW had something like this.
