John- EdgeCAM works great with Solidworks models. It has feature recognition (3D, Contour and 2D bosses and pocket, holes with thread data) all associative so if the model changes your toolpath will automatically update as well. The native file is loaded so there is no translation involved. It works the same with Inventor, Pro-E, SolidEdge, UV and Catia. I have been using it since the mid 90's and I couldn't be more pleased. It has an excellent team of developers behind it with 3 versions a year so it's constantly being improved. It also has a thing called Strategy Manager that is a simple flow chart that you can easily make to machine parts how you want them machined. And once the strategy is made you can seriously program complex models in a matter of minutes.
