Is there any way to just transform an assembly such that the inside is made into a solid? I want to send an assembly to a customer to fit into their part but don't want to send the entire model.

Thanks

Have you tried saving the assembly as a part? Check the options when saving, such as Exterior Faces, Exterior Components, and All Components.

Save the assembly as a part. There is a setting in the save dialog box to save exterior surfaces ony.

Hi, I just tried that as I also have a frequent requirement to send models to customers and the like. These are occasions where the only thing I want the customer to see of our product is the exterior shape. Having experimented with an assembly, saving it as a part with exterior faces only, the result still gives a lot of interior detail. Exterior surfaces can be hidden and any bits inside that had an exterior face, however small, is still there.

Are there further enhancements on the process that can result in a truly 'what you see from the ouside is all you can get' model?

Thanks

Come on guys, I depend on you for answers :-)

Tell me there is an easier way of creating an exterior only model - better still, show me how to do it!

Thanks

I think at this point you are stuck with modifying your model. Add some dummy pieces that cleanly separate what you want on the exterior from what you consider interior. Or make a configuration with pieces suppressed that you don't want to show up.
