weldments

Is there a way to flip the direction of a weldment in a part once its been placed?

ie. i have an angle 6x4x3/8 with the 4" leg towards the left and i want to change it towards the right.

i am having some issue not being able to place the angle in the orientation that i desire.

currently using solidworks 2007.

also if someone could point me to an excellent solidworks weldment resource that would be great.

Thanks Cliff

the location of the structural member's sketch plane is determined by the starting point of the structural member's path segment. now that's a mouth full.

in layman's terms, redraw the path segment, starting from the opposite side of the current path segment. in other words, if path segment was drawn from left-to-right, then delete and redraw from right-to-left.

also useful, under settings, don't forget about the rotate and locate profile functions.

only tutorial i know of is in solidworks.

The other way that i've found to do this, is edit the weldment feature, and deselect all sketch segments. select a different (but parallel) sketch segment that was drawn in the opposite direction (which of course solidworks gives you no way of determining after its drawn...). Then select the sketch segment you actually want, which will be created the same, and then deselect the first sketch segment.

This is achieving the same thing as ken's solution, but might stop you from having to delete and recreate sketch members, which could be handy if the segment is part of a complex sketch, or if there are other features dependant on that segment.

What you really need to be able to do is flip the orientation of the weldment profile sketch plane, but you can't do that. I wanted to try the trick of changing the sketch plane and then changing it back to flip the profile, but you can't change the sketch plane for the weldment profile sketch.

I have made the opposite profiles & saved them as 3x2x1/4 instead of 2x3x1/4 or vice-versa. It's a fudge but I found it faster than redrawing some rather complicated frames in 3D sketch & you have a quick easy solution the next time you draw the line in the wrong direction. HTH
