Homasote, suggest you seal it.

Hello, Homasote is a good product, however the last couple of pieces (purchased at two different stores) had a strong odor....so bad that my wife requested that either the Homasote goes or she goes. It's mighty lonesome around here now...luckily she didn't take the dog. Seriously, try sealing all surfaces and edges with any excess house paint. Bob

Yeah, we have occasionaly got the smelly Homasote also, however, we do not like to seal it. When we use Hydrocal(plaster) in conjunction with the Homasote, it makes for a nice bond, and adds support to the table surface. Perhaps 'sniff before you buy' would be in order. :-)

Well, good idea if you purchased moisture contaminated homosote but I attached 5/8" homosote to 1/2" plywood with panel adhesive, and with the homosote on top covered that with green felt and built a rather moderate sized tinplate layout. That was 1992........and have had absolutely no problems because of moisture and here in North Carolina we have beaucoup moisture and humidity. I did place a dehumidifier in the RR room roughly 14x19.

BTW- What is the intended use for 'Homasote' these days when there are so many other contruction materials for ceilings and walls?
