Stripping Classic Metal Works lettering and paint

I've got a Classic Metal Works tractor/trailer set which I'd like to strip the paint and lettering. Does anyone have advice on working with these specific models?

The tractor is die cast metal-- if possible I'd like to remove the lettering and keep the red paint and silver details. The trailer is plastic and I'd like to strip the entire paint job.

If no one has specific advice with these models I guess I'll try traditional methods, starting with a bath in alcohol and moving up to brake fluid or oven cleaner if that doesn't work.

Any tricks on removing the wheels and axles that you'd like to share before I go ahead and botch that up, too?

I'd avoid oven cleaner on the die cast metal. Oven cleaner attacks aluminum, and maybe other metals, which may be in the die cast alloy. You could end up with a badly corroded and pitted mess.

If you want to save a lot of work, you might want to consider buying an unlettered version. They come in a variety of colors, IIRC.

But I already have the truck / trailer.

It was the decal set that I really was interested in: A casual modeling friend (who produces DM Custom Decals) has a new trailer set I was interested in... so I *had* to get a set. I saw him at a train show about two weeks ago, and -- of coure -- another person who runs a small hobby shop located about a half-hour north of me was at the next table at the show and happened to have a CMW truck / trailer which I though could work for the project, since the cab was already red.

Just trying to keep it local, I guess.

Not hearing any dire warnings, the trailer is going to get a rubbing alcohol bath very soon.
