The line on Alderney is about 2 miles long, if that. It existed purely as an adjunct to maintaining the breakwater. There is no evidence that the Germans brought either locos or stock to run there.

EDIT: According to Myles Munsey, who authored an article on the Alderney Railway in the Feb 2005 "Railway Modeller", the Germans lifted the track and sent it and the two locos on Alderney to France as scrap in 1942.

Bruce, I saw an article the other day in an aviation mag about a bloke in (I think) Germany, who is building a replica Albatros D.III. What made it particularly interesting is that it is an Austrian/Oeffag variant, powered by an original, zero-time Austro-Daimler engine! The photos showed the finished fuselage, looking superb. I'll try to find the mag and send you a scan of the article.

All I know about the Winona Rly was that it was promoted by an outfit called the "Winona Assembly and Summer School Session" - great name!

Apaprently the revenue from the line was used to fund a trade school for disadvantaged children. So from the sounds of it they were a *genuinely* Christian organisation.

The nice thing about railway modelling is that it doesnt have to be prototypical :) it can be an "It Might Have Been" which is what I was referring to, have to admit it though, I'd no idea that there had ever been a railway in the Channel Islands :) Unlike the Isle of Man or Isle of Wight, a lot of german narrow guage gear is available as kits as are ww1 narrow guage British/allied railway gear (Gem models I think) as kits including a nice Baldwin n/g loco which still exist though now in Wales, also armoured petrol engine locos , boggie wagons including ambulance wagons, pity no one seems to do a rail Gun model that would look good behind a dean Goods in WD markings :) I am trying to get together enough "stuff" to model a mythical Channel island railway c 1943 in N , may be I should try n/g instead.! Mark, Maybe, but a Christian summer school or charitable learning camp might be a veneer for fundamentalist indoctrination center. This type of thing would be typical of cult like non-denominational groups and the Calvinistic Christian non-Christians. The use of the word Assembly in the title would tend to suggest this. This may not be the case of course but you always have to be a little suspicious because............
