many thanks for replys, went to see fm today& took some photos its the solid flywheel type made in 1929 in quite good condition.it would seem there has been a mag on it at some time gear driven,the owner says it was run last on buzz coil,long gone though, i cant find any evidence of a contact system (not sure how these buzz coils work)i might buy one from engineers empurium still leaves prob of contact system, any sugestions?aparently this engine was once owned by patrick knight.perhaps some one on hear may know this engine. has any one on the group got one of these engines&would kindly e mail a photo so i can compare. i will have to have a good look around the old sodbury sort out this saturday, so if your there and see some one walking around with fm mag in hand looking chuffed its me! cheers andy.

I take it the solid flywheels are the dished pattern. If so, these engines were known coloquially as "dishpans".
I was offered one for next to no money many years ago. It was sitting in the back garden of a family butchers in California, Wokingham. As I was then burdened with too many engines I let it go.....
I lived close by at the time, well within Patrick Knight territory. Have you contacted Patrick to test his recollection of the ignition set-up? If you need his email address, mail me offline.
Independent Ignition have a UK online catalogue that allegedly contains trembler coils. I know nothing of them, so can't comment on quality, but it may give you a price check pre-Sodbury.
