The relaxing effects of a good book are not to be underestimated, Martin!
The Rolls-Roce Heritage Trust books are also very much recommended if a little expensive in the UK.
I noticed that they were no longer for sale at the USAF Museum either, where they were almost half the price of the UK sellers, less our membership discount.

I have 'The knife and fork man' and 'Rule of thumb' on my Christmas list. Plus, for no easily discernable reason, I just bought a Wartburg workshop manual off ebay!

Don't tell me that when you cant get the video working you look for the manual, same applies to the wife. Eventually the thing sorts itself out :-)) Anyway you would go and buy a new one and still not read the book :-))

One has to ask why a Wartburg manual :-))
They were quite interesting little beasties, cousins of the Trabant/DKW/Saab (although SAAB would throw their hands up in horror at any connection!)
Brother in Law had a DKW that he shoehorned a Triumph Herald engine into...

Dunno, I guess I just like to know how things are put together - when I worked at EMI in Hayes I used to spend lunchtimes at the local library which had a particularly good collection of factory workshop manuals. I'm also particularly attracted to vehicles which fall into the 'minimal motoring' catagory from ancient cyclecars to modern micros and taking in cyclemotors along the way. Have a look at this delight on ebay at the moment:-

My non-ownership of an E-type is largely because I _have_ read the manual!
One of my favourite old Haynes / Autobooks is the Daf 66, just for the crazy gearbox.
Yes, that would be an interesting one to read (though 'gearbox' is surely something of a misnomer). I'm particularly fond of the 2CV and Honda
50/70/90 ones - both vehicles are engineering masterpieces in their own way.Nick H.
