On the way up to Matlock and places north yesterday, we caught up with a bullion or cash transport with Police escort vehicles.
We joined the convoy just after Leicester at J21 and we were due to come off at J28, so tucked in behind the escorting Police vehicle in the middle lane, left a bit of a gap so he wouldn't get too annoyed and watched the fun.
The number of drivers who tried to get past the vehicles you would not believe, the driver of the Police escort vehicle in front of me was fending off drivers in the slow lane who tried and also those in the outside lane where the trucks were.
There were two other escorts, one immediately in front of the one in front of me, and another about 1/4 mile in front, so the procession was running on a reasonably clear road at about 70mph, more downhill when the truck ran up to
80mph with the apparent agreement of the escort.
Much ducking and diving was going on behind me, as various pretenders rushed up to the top of the queue and got quite forcibly blocked by the Police driver. I don't know if they were armed or not, but there were three in each vehicle and they looked quite handy...
I eventually moved over to the left lane just before J28, accompanied by the escort vehicle, just in case, although I was signalling to turn off. Must be quite interesting doing that job every day!
