Very nice too. It is unusual to find one complete with its drive gearing, especially with a clip-to-the-spokes gear.

Kim Siddorn.
The Bonniksen is an absolute jewel of the instrument makers art, it has a watch type escapement regulating the speed of a tiny camshaft which operates equally tiny clutches coupling the two needles alternately to the drive for a measured period of time. First one needle climbs up the scale, freezing at the instantaneous speed, then the other follows it, freezing at the new speed. Both remain stationary for a few seconds, the distance between them giving an indication of acceleration, then the first flicks back to zero before racing round the dial to repeat the process. In addition, the elapsed time dials enable average speed to be calculated. Must have been just about the ultimate gadget in its day.
I believe Bonniksen's watches are even more sought after and would probably make the speedo look cheap!
BTW, Can we surmise from the buyer's handle that he is a fan of a certain sporting French motor car? If that is the case then he certainly knows a thing or two about art in engineering.
Nick, thanks for the illumination. As soon as I read your post, I knew I needed one of these. :-)
