OT - proper vintage racing!

Just found out that TOP GEAR filmed its latest challenge on the 25th April, - All three raced from London to Edinburgh, Richard Hammond in a vintage Jag or Bentley, James May in a DC-6 and Jeremy Clarkson on the footplate of the new A1 locomotive Tornado - the latter with a full load behind it - 9-10 coaches.

It is due to be broadcast in the Autumn.

As yet I have no idea who won.

Vintage Jag!!! - I don't give much for the chances of a special bodied Austin 7 beating even a Black 5 over any distance! Regards, Richard Wednesday 06/05/2009, 08:39

It now appears that Hammond was on a Vincent!

Who kicked it over for him?

The interesting part will be, knowing what actually happened, how they edit it together for the programme.

Come on Dan, don't keep us on tenterhooks! If you tell, think of all the rest of us sharing the moment & shouting "That's not what happened!"

Charles, For reasons of my own I stick to the speed limits religiously and I can get without stopping to Edinburgh from Bedford in six hours, very early in the morning though and London is less than an hour south of me.

Apropos of which, I note from Moto GP coverage that the latest Ducati has dispensed with the customary lattice frame in favour of a rigid box carrying the steering head, bolted to the top of the structural engine/transmission unit which itself carries the rear suspension. Plus ca change etc!

That's a novel idea - I wonder how they thought of that? ,,,,,,,
