08s

When i were a lad, I collected photos of 08s with the intention of getting a pic of every loco in the fleet. Consequently I have a great big pile of the things.

I figure these pics could be of use to many people modelling the locos, they're good quality big glossy b&w prints, and so have been seeking a definitive Gronk website that I could hopefully contribute the pics to, but alas with no luck.

Does such a website exist?

Secondly, none of the pics have any information on them regarding who the photographer is, or any other kind of copyright info. Do you think that in those circumstances it would be best not to publish them at all?

okay, so on reflection (20 seconds worth) maybe that should have gone to uk.railway.

apologies to anyone who thinks it's off topic.

Hi Pete,

Have you contacted Martin Bray, Swansea. Excellent web-site with loads of 08's and much more......

Yours certainly sounds like a remarkable resource for modellers.

Any/all of the following Yahoo Groups would probably welcome your collection or copies of it:

1) The_Shunter_Page (499 members)
formatting link
"WELCOME to 'The_Shunter_Page' Please help to keep this list up to date by sending your shunter observation to - 'The_Shunter_Page'. - The aim of 'THE SHUNTER PAGE' is to provide up to date locations for all ex BR Shunters mainly class 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12 14 and 15, but others are being added to. There is a growing section for Industrial and Preserved Shunters" 2) Shuntergen (201 members)
formatting link
"Welcome to Shuntergen This mailing list is for filling the locations of all the class 08 and 09s in Great Britain all observations as well as movements are welcome to be posted on this site" 3) Class08 (10 members)
formatting link
"Class 08 - all thing about BR Class 08 Shunters shunter" 4) gronkgen (78 members)

"This gen site is for information on shunters both on the UK rail network and abroad. Shunter information ONLY to be posted to this site."

They seem to be the most likely.

You might get some correspondence from annoyed photographers if you use their photos on a website without permission. I believe photos remain copyright of the photographer for 70 years.

Someone "borrowed" photos from my website recently for use on his own site, and to add insult to injury, he even claimed to have taken the photos himself. After complaints from me & others, he has now removed the photos from his site. If only he had asked me first, I might have let him use the photos, provided he had credited me as the photographer.

Publish the photos but CLEARLY state that you don't know the photographers and would be pleased to either attribute them or remove them upon request..

I had thought about that, but even with the pile of pics I have I wouldn't be able to cover a large enough percentage of the fleet to make any website comprehensive enough.

very true, but likewise, they -may- have been sold 'royalty free'. I didn't pay much attention to why the stall-holders were selling them when I was a nipper, just snapped them up as soon as I set eyes on the things.

The lack of any kind of copyright info on the pics is frustrating because they really are valuable from a modelling perspective, most of the locos are now long gone.

I would -never- try to pass them on as my own work though (honest guv!), I would always make it clear that the photographer was unknown and may wish for the material to be deleted. In the meantime it would be a shame if noone but myself could view them because clearly the photographer wanted them to be seen by the public (even if it was at

15p a shot!)

But food for thought. I shall keep your words in mind. thanks for the input.

I used to belong to a yahoo group that had a lot of artwork that people didn't know who it belonged to. What they did was to have the displayed artwork 'defaced' by adding a thick black bar to partially obscure some of the image, which they would remove if someone claimed ownership and permitted them to keep it up.
