Though - thinking about it - perhaps they're fully committed to a programme of specials for the NRM ?!? (Better get the main batch of Deltics out first, though)!

On a more pragmatic level, what with the unrebuilt Patriot and the Standard Class 4 4-6-0 outstanding, they'll probably struggle to release even this modest 2008/9 programme on time.

The former in unrebuilt form lasted far later than the 'Scots' - I think only one or two of the latter which managed to survive into the British Railways era, whereas around 50% of the 'Patriots' were withdrawn in substantially original condition. With BR steam era being far more popular than the pre-nationalisation period for modellers, it makes good commerical sense to produce the Patriot rather than the Scot (and remember both are significantly different unlike the rebuilt versions) PLUS guess which one is in the Hornby range (and in need of a re-tool).

I wonder if they will 'do' the one I would want: unnamed 45517 of Bank Hall shed, which regularly crossed the Pennines into Yorkshire on a Liverpool (Exchange) to Newcastle working.

Pleased to see that the early crest BR version is to be 45503 'The Royal Leicestershire Regiment'. Bet you an intermodal to a 16T Mineral that they get the nameplate wrong...

Why a 105? Surely there's another class they could have covered without treading on DC-Kits' toes. A 104 for instance?

well thats ok then, for a moment thought they were doing it to get one up on Hornby, that would be unfortunate as Hornby have retired their old patriot and gone for the rebuilt instead. Bachmann would have been outflanked if that was their stratergy. :-)

You seem to have ignored the sound-fitted 'Kolhapur' John, which may turn out to be the most significant new Bachmann release as far as the future of steam outline goes? Would have preferred late-crest myself but at least that gives Bachmann time to get the CV values correct. Also the 40 and 45 are to be sound-fitted.

Fair point. Dave Alexander's apparently a bit unhappy that Heljan are doing the Clayton (IIRC) but his model's been available for ages and he's one of the main beneficiaries from the area between Tees and Tyne being marked 'here be dragons' as far as RTR steam prototypes go.

If a North-Eastern modeller somehow got the start-up money to create a Ready-to-Run business focusing on NER stuff there has to be a huge gap in the market. Hell, someone's even commissioned a 12" to the foot G5!

Ah, I see. After your negative comment about the forthcoming Hornby Duchess I assumed you had a grudge against sound-fitted locos. It's a shame Simon Evans (Piemanlarger) isn't still here to put the other side of the argument. He's gone to the *other* place :o)

True enough, but the fact that a kit has been available for a few years now must result in a smaller market for the RTR Bachmann version.. I don't know how many 105 kits Charlie has sold, but every one of those is probably a lost sale for Bachmann. I spent some considerable time building a DCK 105 and I'm pleased with the result despite having almost no previous experience of kit building. The weak link in that kit is the Black Beetle, but that subject has been done to death elsewhere.
