Anyone tried these cheaper ones (GBP45) for card and speaker, run on DC as well as DCC. Sounds are generic computer assist generated rather than recorded. Realise that will upset purests but some of us are not that tuned in to unique sounds.

Other than sound chips for electric's I can't see the point in sound chips, having chuffing, hissing or 'growling' (for diesel outline) from model loco's without the correct visuals also being emitted too just looks and sounds pointless to me, technology for technology sake - true - close ones eyes and the effect *is made*, but then why bother with the actual model, why not just listen to one of those old "Transacord" or equivalent recordings?!
Save you GBP45, that money goes a long way towards another loco or buys one or two coaches...
It doesnt interest me that much, have one sound loco purely as a bit of fun. Think it has more effect for diesels though - perhaps cos they always have the engine noise even when stationary. The tot likes diesels with sound and anything that interests him in models is a bonus as it increases our budget :-) Even so would only think in terms of one or 2 units, the whole fleet can wait a few years for prices to drop.
